New Zealand defeated India by 6 runs in the second ODI at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi yesterday and levelled the five match series 1-1. After losing the toss New Zealand were put into bat and Kane Williamson’s composed 118 runs off 128 balls helped New Zealand to 242 for nine in the stipulated 50 overs. Chasing a target of 243, India were off to a poor start with wickets tumbling at regular intervals.
Kedar Jadhav scored 41, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane added 39 and 28 runs respectively but that was not enough to take the hosts over the line. Indian batsmen were struggling at 184 for 8 after 41st over but Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav stepped up and fought till the last last over adding 49 runs for the ninth wicket.
Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav’s heroics went in vein as Kiwis stopped India at 236 in the 49.3 overs. This is New Zealand’s first win on this tour and their first-ever victory at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Third ODI between India and New Zealand will be played at Mohali on Sunday.
