Khurda: Amidst the ongoing chaos at banks to get rid of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, a depositor from Khurda was caught while trying to exchange fake currency notes. The accused has been identified as Sumit Kumar Tudu.
According to sources, out of Rs 2.5 Lakh worth of currency notes being exchanged by Sumit, Rs 47, 000 worth of notes were found to be counterfeit.
After getting the information, Khurda Town police have arrested Sumit and is investigating him. Sumit said that he got the money from his father.
“He brought Rs 2.5 lakh for exchange out of which we doubted that Rs 47,000 are counterfeit,” said branch manager of the Khurda branch of State Bank of India, Debprasad Kanhar.
