MANGALURU: Eight kids were killed and nine harmed in a collision between Maruti Omni carring school kids and a private bus at Kundapur, around 90 kms from here, on Tuesday.
The incident occured at Mohadi Cross, Trasi, Kundapur, Gangolli Police limits. There were 19 tenants in the van, including driver Martin and educator Philomena and 17 understudies of Don Bosco School from primary to Std VI.
The private bus was on its way from Byndoor to Kundapur and the Maruti Omni van was plying in the opposite direction.
Police said two children died on the spot, while six succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. Six students are being administered treatment at Chinmay Hospital, Kundapura and others have been rushed to Kasturba Medical College Hosital, Manipal. The condition of two students is said to be critical.
Students were brought to KMC in five ambulances. DySP Kumaraswamy other officials have visited KMC Hospital.
