Chandigarh : 9 pilgrims were killed and another 12 harmed after the vehicle conveying them crashed into two heavy vehicles in Sainiwas town of Siwani town of Bhiwani locale this morning.

The expired, including one lady, were the residents of Machhiwara in Punjab’s Ludhiana locale. They were coming back from Gogamedi, which is a town of religious significance in Hanumangarh region of Rajasthan.

Police said the pick-up vehicle got sandwiched between two heavy vehicles after it rammed into a truck moving ahead of them, and then was hit by another vehicle from behind. The injured were rushed to the Bhiwani civil hospital. They include five women and seven men.

Recently, on September 13, seven Punjabi pilgrims were killed while 53 were injured when two trucks carrying pilgrims for the same religious destination had met with an accident in Sirsa district of Haryana.
